Meet Iris: Pierced Owl Models

If you've visited the Pierced Owl website or social media recently, you've most likely come across Iris. Iris came into our studio in the fall to model some pieces. He has so many amazing piercings that were super fun to style-- especially his snakebites and double conch piercing. Iris was super down to try out a range of jewelry and came in with the best accessories to style with (rob-list worthy closet tbh). We sent some questions to Iris following our shoot to get to know him better!

When did you get your first piercing? What was the experience like?

I got my septum when I was 14 and it was actually very nice. It healed well and I definitely love it.

You have so many amaze piercings. Which one is your fave?

I’d say my bridge or my snakebites and if I had to choose which snakebite it’d be the left one.

What is your most recent piercing?

My bridge. It’s the coolest and I’m glad I went through with getting it.

Which of your piercings hurt the most and which hurt the least?

Healing my left snakebite was a pain and a half. It was super sore and healed the slowest out of all my piercings. Although getting it pierced was a 1/10 the healing was brutal. The easiest one was definitely my bridge. 0/10 on pain scale in every way.

Do you have any pre or post piercing rituals?

I think piercing maintenance is really important but my piercings are definitely low maintenance (except for my bridge) so I let them be for the most part. Just the usual cleaning and that’s all.

Do you have any tips around getting pierced, changing, or caring for your piercings?

I think communicating with your piercer is so important along with doing research. Research, research, and more research. Another tip would be to take out the anti-eyebrow if it’s rejected.

What’s your favorite piece of jewelry from your photoshoot with Pierced Owl?

OMG best question. Definitely the 777 angel wing belly ring or my hinged hoops for my snakebites that double as nose rings. 7 is my favorite number and having easy to use rings is such a lifesaver.

What’s a piece of jewelry from Pierced Owl on your ‘wishlist’?

Definitely the black dice eyebrow ring. I would put that on SO fast.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is your first or favorite tattoo and why?

I have a star on my thigh and although it’s not really my style anymore I still do have so much love for it. It’s very representative of an interesting and creative time in my life so I take it as a reminder.

What are you currently passionate about?

Making perfect playlists. It’s a must.

What’s the weirdest thing you carry in your purse/bag/wallet?

My younger cousin's tiny toy chicken. He is very passionate about animals and reminding people what sound they make.

If you could travel anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?

Finland. But realistically probably California again. I’d like to see more state parks there.

Who/what is your fashion inspiration at the moment?

Unfortunately it’s been a lot of 90s frontmen. I am who I am… sorry.

How would you describe your style?

If I could describe it in three words I’d say simple, eclectic, and collected. But in the wise words of my mother “you look like you’re trying to be emo”.

What’s a 'guilty pleasure' of yours?

George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass”. I used to be a Beatles hater and although it’s only Harrison’s album it opened me up to The Beatles.

Best and/or worst thing in pop culture right now or ever?

Tik Tok. That’s all.

What has been your favorite or most interesting job to date?

I used to handle snakes at the pet store I used to work at and I really enjoyed that aspect of the job. Snakes are awesome.

What’s something you could teach someone in 5 minutes?

How to download your Spotify data to track your listening stats.

Is there a piece of advice you’d give anyone and everyone?

I think it would be to try to understand the subjectivity in the things we experience or witness. Perspective is so influential and so important and so commonly rejected.

What’s something unique about you?

It’s a basic answer but I think the way I express myself is unique. It’s unique for everyone so I think that also includes me.

Favorite book?

Either “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky or “Beautiful Boy” by David Sheff. I read both a long time ago and I think about them to this day.

Anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself or body jewelry?

Please please please take out the rejecting anti-eyebrow. I’m begging you.
