How to Clean Body Jewelry

How to Clean Body Jewelry

Titanium and stainless steel jewelry are made to be worn comfortably day and night. Often, these pieces are worn for days or weeks at a time. To ensure the longevity of your jewelry, as well as your piercings, cleaning your body jewelry is essential!

For healthy and healed piercings, a simple rinse can be enough to clean up your jewelry. Although titanium and stainless steel are resistant to corrosion and discoloration, harsh chemicals should not be used to clean them. Avoid bleach or hydrogen peroxide. To help, follow our step-by-step guide on how to clean your jewelry effectively with household supplies!

**Some piercings can close within minutes! Keep this in mind when changing your jewelry. While taking off your pieces to clean, consider putting in another piece of clean jewelry so avoid your piercing closing or tightening!

1. Gather Supplies

You'll need a mild soap and warm water. You can also use a mixture of water and non-iodized salt to create a saline solution. If there is a lot of build-up on your jewelry, a soft-bristled toothbrush, cloth, or q-tip can be used to gently scrub the jewelry.

2. Prep Mixture

Fill a small bowl with warm water and soap. Alternatively, mix one quarter teaspoon of salt into one cup of warm water. You can also use a saline spray.

3. Let it Soak!

Submerge your jewelry in your water mixture. Allow your jewelry to sit for a few minute to loosen dirt, oil, or debris.

4. Scrub Clean

Use a soft toothbrush, cloth, or q-tip to scrub your jewelry. Pay close attention to crevices and intricate details. Be mindful of gemstones or embellishments to avoid dislodging or damaging the settings.

5. Rinse with Water

Once done cleaning, rinse your jewelry under water to remove soap residue. Be careful not to drop down the sink!

6. Dry Jewelry

Pat jewelry dry with a clean cloth towel or set it to air dry. Make sure the jewelry is completely dry before storing or wearing.

7. Jewelry Storage

When you're not wearing your jewelry, it can be stored in a clean and dry area. Preferable in a container or pouch to prevent scratches!

Proper cleaning and maintenance are super essential in preserving the longevity of your titanium and stainless steel jewelry -- as well as the health of your piercings! Ensure that your jewelry remains cute and clean by adopting a good hygiene practice!
